Our Commitment to Natural Materials and Responsible Delivery
At Aoraki, sustainability is not a passing trend — it is a deliberate and ongoing commitment. From the fibres we select to the way our products are packaged and delivered, every decision reflects respect for both people and planet.
Our philosophy begins with materials. We prioritise renewable, natural fibres such as merino wool and cashmere because they are biodegradable, durable, and grown rather than manufactured from fossil fuels. Natural fibres regulate temperature, breathe with the body, and stand the test of time. When responsibly sourced, they represent a sustainable cycle — one that works with nature rather than against it.
Equally important is how our knitwear is made. We do not rely on electric knitting machines or high-energy automated systems. Instead, our production remains intentionally hands-on and low impact. Manual craftsmanship allows us to maintain quality while keeping energy consumption modest. Small-batch production also reduces overstock and unnecessary waste — a quiet but meaningful step toward responsible manufacturing.
Sustainability, however, does not stop at our own workshop. We carefully vet the environmental policies of our yarn suppliers, ensuring they share our commitment to ethical sourcing, responsible land stewardship, and reduced chemical processing. True sustainability requires transparency throughout the supply chain, not just at the final stage of production.
Our eco-conscious approach extends to packaging as well. We minimise plastic use wherever possible, avoid unnecessary excess materials, and select packaging solutions designed to reduce environmental impact while still protecting the product during transit. The goal is simple: protection without waste.
Distribution is another critical piece of the sustainability puzzle. Modern logistics relies heavily on hydrocarbon fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. As e-commerce continues to grow, so too does the responsibility to ship thoughtfully. That is why we work with partners who are actively investing in greener alternatives.
DHL Express, for example, has committed to achieving zero emissions by 2050. Their initiatives include the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel through the GoGreen Plus programme, the transition from heavy fuel oil to sustainable marine biofuels, and a commitment to electrifying 60% of last-mile delivery vehicles by 2030. While no global logistics network is entirely carbon-neutral today, meaningful progress is being made — and we believe in supporting that progress.
Environmental sustainability is about more than reducing emissions; it is about balancing growth with stewardship. Businesses must align commercial success with environmental responsibility. Consumers increasingly expect this — and rightly so. A product should not only serve the wearer, but respect the world it comes from.
At Aoraki, our policy is clear:
Use renewable natural materials wherever possible.
Maintain low-impact, manual production methods.
Carefully assess supplier environmental standards.
Reduce packaging waste and plastic use.
Partner with logistics providers working toward carbon reduction.
We believe clothing should endure — in quality, in style, and in principle. Sustainability is not a slogan stitched onto a label. It is a responsibility woven into every fibre, every parcel, and every decision we make.
