Sustainability at Aoraki
At Aoraki, sustainability is not an afterthought. It shapes how we choose our materials, how we manufacture, how we package, and how we deliver. Our aim is simple: to create enduring knitwear while respecting the environment that makes it possible.
Materials
We prioritise renewable natural fibres such as merino wool and cashmere. These fibres are biodegradable, breathable, and long-lasting.
Natural materials regulate temperature, resist odor, and work in harmony with the body. When responsibly sourced, they represent a sustainable cycle — grown, shorn, and renewed — rather than manufactured from fossil fuels.
We carefully vet our yarn suppliers to ensure their environmental standards align with our own. Ethical sourcing, responsible land management, and reduced chemical processing are essential considerations in every fibre we select.
Manufacturing
Our production methods are intentionally low-impact.
We do not rely on electric knitting machines or high-energy automated systems. Instead, our knitwear is crafted using hands-on methods that prioritise quality, durability, and modest energy use.
Small-batch production allows us to reduce waste and avoid over-manufacturing. We believe garments should be made to last — not designed for disposal at the end of a season.
Packaging
Sustainability extends beyond the garment itself.
We aim to minimize plastic use and avoid unnecessary packaging. Materials are selected to protect your purchase while reducing environmental impact.
Our approach is simple: protection without excess.
Shipping & Logistics
E-commerce carries an environmental cost, particularly through transport emissions. That is why we partner with logistics providers who are actively working to reduce their carbon footprint.
DHL Express, our international shipping partner, has committed to achieving zero emissions by 2050. Their initiatives include:
-
Use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel through the GoGreen Plus programme
-
Transition to sustainable marine biofuels
-
Electrification of last-mile delivery vehicles, targeting 60% electric fleets by 2030
While global logistics cannot yet eliminate emissions entirely, meaningful progress is underway — and we believe in supporting that transition.
Our Promise
-
To prioritise renewable, natural materials
-
To maintain low-impact, manual production methods
-
To carefully assess the environmental practices of our suppliers
-
To reduce packaging waste wherever possible
-
To partner with delivery providers committed to carbon reduction
Sustainability, for us, is not a marketing statement. It is a responsibility woven into every fibre, every stitch, and every parcel we send.
