We’re Craig and Caroline, and we started this little adventure in 2023 after a few unexpected twists in life gave us a fresh perspective. It reminded us of the beauty in simplicity, the joy of creating with our hands, and the satisfaction of building something meaningful from the ground up.
From our cozy base in Auckland, we’ve set up what we fondly call The Knit Room — right next to our office and photo studio. It’s where the magic happens, one beanie and scarf at a time. We believe that winter accessories should do more than just keep you warm. They should make you feel good, look great, and last for seasons to come.
At Aoraki, we put real care into every stitch. Our beanies and scarves are made using premium yarns, carefully sourced from New Zealand and around the world. Caroline brings over 20 years of knitwear design experience to the table, and it shows in every detail. As she often says, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.”
Each piece is hand-crafted with precision and pride — not just by us, but by a small, trusted team of artisans and suppliers who share our values. Together, we create accessories that are as beautiful as they are functional, ready for anything from alpine getaways to city strolls.

So, why the name Aoraki? It’s inspired by Aoraki / Mount Cook — New Zealand’s tallest mountain and a powerful figure in Ngāi Tahu Māori legend. The name itself evokes “clouds” and “sky,” a fitting symbol of elevation, perspective, and strength. Just like the mountain, we hope our knitwear stands tall — enduring, reliable, and a little bit inspiring.
